What is XGP

Before understating the XGP, it might be worthwhile to understand what End-to-End Mobile Services testing. Most mobile operators routinely go through changes to their cellular network due to many reasons. They are caused by changes to services provided by the MNO, equipment upgrades, adding new technologies, network expansions and market optimizations. Each time changes take place, there is a certain amount of testing required on affected services. Traditionally, network engineers and quality assurance teams spend a significant amount of time in manual testing using UEs and other test equipment. What if these test scenarios can be fully scripted, managed as test projects, automatically executed, and reported? That’s where XGP becomes handy, which also can do much more!

XGP is a complete hardware and software solution that provides end-to-end test automation for GSM Networks. It has programmable GSM radios that can emulate user equipment (UEs) such as mobile handsets, IoT devices etc. Also, they can run test scenarios pushed into them by a central coordinated test management system.

XGP

XGP comes with a test case library of hundreds of different test scenarios that are applicable to 2G, 3G, 4G, 5G radio standards. They cover voice, broadband data, narrowband (IoT) data, IP and Non-IP based messaging. Based on the design of the test devices, they can execute high-level as well as very low-level test cases, and provides the ability to diagnose issues in a mobile network. Once the test scenarios are defined in a test suite, it can be pushed into one or more test execution devices and run autonomously.

XGP can make the testing velocity increase by at least 5 times compared with manual testing. Also, by adding more XG devices, further parallelism can be gained in testing, cutting down the overall time to market. Some of the test scenarios may require certain steps to be validated in web portals and other service integrations. In addition to the GSM RF Test Agents, XGP has other agents supporting Web UI, Mobile UI, API etc. Using these multiple channels, XGP can automate composite test scenarios using a single automation platform.

RF Testing and Validation is only one use case for which XGP is being used. Some mobile operators use the platform for long term service monitoring and SLA compliance validation. In addition to that, certain others use the platform to benchmark their services against other mobile operators in given markets.
